This carbonised surface provides excellent resistance to moisture, UV rays, pests, and decay, reducing the need for regular upkeep. However, depending on the environment and personal preference, occasional maintenance can enhance its longevity and appearance:
- Oiling (Optional): Applying a UV-resistant oil or sealant can help preserve the colour and prevent the wood from fading, especially in areas with intense sunlight or harsh weather.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the surface with a soft brush or cloth to remove dirt and debris, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage the charred finish.
- Inspection: Regularly check for any cracks or damage, particularly if the wood is exposed to extreme weather conditions, and address these promptly to maintain its protective properties.
While maintenance isn’t strictly necessary, these steps can keep the burnt wood looking its best and further extend its lifespan.
